Scientific interests : With Judit Gervain, I investigate neural encoding of speech sounds by newborns. Using EEG and NIRS, we look at the basic tools that the newborn’s brain uses to decode speech, at the very onset of language acquisition. My work is thus deeply linked to auditory neuroscience, the ultimate goal being to determine if the auditory system uses some specific processing steps to encode such a complex and ecologically relevant signal.

Awards : My work is supported by a Human Frontier Science Program Grant RGY0073/2014 awarded to Judit Gervain and Maria Geffen.
