Attention, perception, and cognitive control: testing the limits
Human capacity for perception, attention and cognitive control is limited and processing is often severely compromised in tasks that load these capacities, as well as for people with reduced capabilities. For example, High load in perceptual processing results in the phenomena of inattentional blindness and deafness; whereas individual differences in the level of attention deficits symptoms at childhood can predict level of distractibility during task performance in adulthood. In this talk, I will present recent research on the effects of perceptual load on attention, perception, awareness and cognitive control and the underlying neural mechanisms. Applications of this work in both clinical and non-clinical settings (e.g. for the automotive industry) will be described as well.
